The Portuguese Grand Prix
The Portuguese Grand Prix at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão is known for its dramatic elevation changes, fast-flowing corners, and spectacular roller-coaster layout. Portugal has a rich racing heritage, with the Grand Prix first joining the Formula 1 World Championship in the late 1950s before returning to prominence at Estoril.
The Algarve circuit made its modern F1 debut in 2020 and quickly became a standout addition to the calendar, with blind corners, sweeping turns and significant elevation changes providing a unique challenge for drivers. Lewis Hamilton won both Portuguese Grands Prix held at Portimão in 2020 and 2021, while the circuit’s distinctive layout delivered plenty of memorable racing. With the Portuguese Grand Prix returning for 2027 and 2028, fans can once again experience F1 at one of Europe’s most distinctive circuits.
