The Canadian Grand Prix
The Canadian Grand Prix has been a fixture on the Formula 1 calendar since 1967, with Montreal’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve becoming its permanent home in 1978. The 4.361 km circuit is a fast, low-downforce layout featuring long straights, heavy braking zones, tight chicanes and the famous hairpin. With little room for error and the iconic Wall of Champions waiting at the final chicane, the circuit has developed a reputation for producing unpredictable and closely fought racing.
The setting gives the Canadian Grand Prix a character of its own. Built on Île Notre-Dame in the St Lawrence River, the circuit combines the intensity of a semi-permanent street track with the green surroundings of Parc Jean-Drapeau.
