The Countdown to Wimbledon 2024

What's Happened So Far?

The dust has settled on Roland-Garros, and a new name is etched in history. 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz completed a remarkable feat, winning the French Open to claim his third Grand Slam title in just 18 months! His US Open (2022) and Wimbledon (2023) victories solidify him as the youngest player ever to conquer all three Grand Slam surfaces. Alcaraz's opponent, Alexander Zverev, fell short in a thrilling five-set battle, but the German star will undoubtedly be hungry for redemption at Wimbledon.

Beyond the French Open, the tennis world continues to shift. Jannik Sinner, the surprise champion of the Australian Open, ascends to the No. 1 ranking in the ATP rankings – a historic first for an Italian player. This rise comes amidst the absence of Novak Djokovic, who was forced to withdraw from his Australian Open quarter-final. With Wimbledon just around the corner, questions swirl about whether the seven-time champion will make a return.

On the women's side, Iga Świątek remains a force, retaining her French Open title for a dominant third year. Coco Gauff also made headlines, bouncing back from a semi-final defeat to claim the doubles championship alongside Katerina Siniakova.

The era of "The Big Three" seems to be waning, ushering in a new era of unpredictability in tennis. This uncertainty, coupled with the potential absence of a familiar face, promises an exciting and wide-open Wimbledon Championships unlike any we've seen before!
