The wait is almost over. The Premier League returns on Friday 21 August 2026, with a new season bringing 380 fixtures, fierce rivalries and another nine months of high-stakes football. The Premier League campaign will run through to Sunday 30 May 2027, when all 10 final-day fixtures will kick off simultaneously.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup having pushed the domestic season slightly later than usual, football fans will be ready for the return of the Premier League. The Premier League 2026/27 campaign will feature 33 weekend rounds and five midweek rounds, while a new-look international-break schedule will see the September and October breaks combined into one longer pause.
Arsenal Begin Their Title Defense this Premier League
Arsenal will enter the new campaign as Premier League champions, and they have the honour of opening the season at home against newly promoted Coventry City at Emirates Stadium on Friday 21 August. It is a fascinating opening fixture, with Arsenal beginning their title defense against a Coventry side returning to the top flight after a lengthy absence.
The opening weekend immediately sets the tone for the season. Manchester United travel to Hull City, Tottenham Hotspur visit Brentford, Manchester City host Bournemouth and Liverpool travel to Newcastle United, while Chelsea face Fulham in a London derby on Monday night.
For supporters, the opening round offers a first glimpse of how the title race, European places and relegation battle could begin to take shape.
