It’s that time of year again! The new Premier League season is upon us, and with it comes a fresh wave of predictions. After a whirlwind summer of transfers, managerial changes, and pre-season buzz, we have compiled our own set of forecasts for the 2025/26 campaign, based on the expert opinions and analysis we've gathered.
The Title Race: Will Liverpool Be Dethroned?
The consensus from many football experts is that the title race will be a closely contested affair, but a few teams stand out. Our prediction is that Liverpool will successfully defend their title. They were already a formidable force as champions last season, and their summer business has only strengthened their position. With big-money signings like Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, they have added impressive depth and quality. They have shown great ambition in their recruitment. We also believe Liverpool are in a strong position and stand as clear favourites, it would be brave to bet against them.
However, it won't be a walk in the park. Arsenal are our pick to finish second. This could be the Gunners' year, citing their strong squad investment and the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres as a potential "game changer." After knocking on the door for three seasons, they are "fired up to make sure this is their time."
Manchester City will round out the top three. Despite Pep Guardiola dramatically shaking things up with new signings, we agree that City will maintain their intensity in high-pressure situations and that Guardiola's track record of never going more than a single season without a league title will be a factor.
The Battle for the Top Four
The fight for the Champions League spots is always intense, and this season looks no different. Our top four prediction is Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
Chelsea, in our opinion, are the team most likely to make a significant leap. We believe they could quickly transform from "top-four hopefuls to title contenders." The youngest team in the league last season, they've shown they can handle pressure by winning both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. With Enzo Maresca at the helm, they have the potential to flourish in year two. Their summer business has been encouraging, and while there are some concerns about their defence, they look poised to retain their place in the top four.
Relegation: A Familiar Story?
This is a tough one, but we are predicting that all three promoted teams will go straight back down. Our picks for relegation are Burnley, Leeds United, and Sunderland. This is a trend that's been seen in recent years, and we don't see it changing this season.
Leeds and Burnley's transfer business hasn't inspired much confidence. We have seen largely unimproved Championship squads that aren’t good enough for the top flight. While all three have spent big, we share everyone's concern that Burnley and Sunderland may not score enough goals to stay up. In the same way Leeds may come up short.
The third relegation spot, however, is where it gets interesting. While many are tipping Brentford to go down after a nightmare summer, we're going with Wolverhampton Wanderers. We saw that they came dangerously close to the relegation fight last season and have not sufficiently replaced Matheus Cunha is a compelling argument.
Bold Predictions and Standout Performers
Every season has its surprises, and we've got a few bold predictions of our own:
Finally, for the signing of the season, we believe Joao Pedro will have a massive impact at Chelsea. He has proved that he's an impressive player who could make the Blues a more comfortable top-four side. His versatility and pre-season form suggest he's ready to shine.
So there you have it, our predictions for the 2025/26 Premier League season. Will Liverpool retain their crown? Can Arsenal finally get over the line? And which teams will be fighting for survival? We'll have to wait and see, but one thing is for sure: it's going to be an exciting campaign.
