The 2027 Formula 1 season is shaping up to be another major year for the championship, with a 24-race calendar spanning 22 countries and five continents. Alongside some of F1’s most iconic circuits, the new season brings the return of two historic venues, changes to the European leg and a record-breaking number of Sprint weekends.
The 2027 calendar will run from March through December, beginning in Bahrain and finishing in Abu Dhabi. With familiar favourites, returning Grands Prix and several notable changes to the schedule, there will be plenty for F1 fans to look forward to.
The 2027 Formula 1 Calendar at a Glance
The season begins with pre-season testing in Bahrain from 24–27 February, before the Bahrain Grand Prix opens the championship on 12–14 March.
From there, F1 heads through Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan and China before crossing to North America for Miami and Canada. The European season then gets underway in Monaco before Formula 1 heads to Portugal, followed by Great Britain, Austria, Belgium and Hungary.
After the summer break, the championship returns with Italy, Spain, Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Singapore before the final run of races in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
2027 Formula 1 Calendar
Portugal Returns to Formula 1
One of the biggest changes for 2027 is the return of the Portuguese Grand Prix.
Formula 1 heads back to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão from 18–20 June, marking the circuit’s first Grand Prix since 2021. Portimão previously hosted F1 in 2020 and 2021, with its dramatic elevation changes and flowing corners making it a popular addition to the calendar.
The Portuguese Grand Prix also adds a different character to the European stretch of the season, with the Algarve offering a combination of high-speed racing, challenging elevation changes and a destination that works particularly well for a summer F1 trip.
For those looking to combine Formula 1 with a premium sporting experience, Portugal is one of the standout additions to the 2027 calendar.
Türkiye Makes Its Formula 1 Comeback
Another major returning race is the Turkish Grand Prix, which will take place at Istanbul Park from 1–3 October.
Türkiye last hosted Formula 1 in 2020 and 2021, including the race where Lewis Hamilton secured his seventh Drivers’ Championship. Istanbul Park is particularly famous for its challenging Turn 8, a long, multi-apex left-hander that has become one of the circuit’s defining features.
Its return also creates an interesting triple-header, with Azerbaijan preceding Türkiye and Singapore following the week after.
Which F1 Races Are No Longer on the 2027 Calendar?
While two former Grands Prix return, there are also some notable omissions from the 2027 schedule.
The Dutch Grand Prix Leaves the F1 Calendar
The biggest permanent change is the removal of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
After several seasons on the F1 calendar, the Dutch Grand Prix will not take place in 2027. Its departure makes room for the expanded schedule while reducing the number of European races.
Barcelona Moves to an Alternating Schedule
Barcelona is another major change, although it has not disappeared from Formula 1 completely.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will move to an alternating arrangement with Spa-Francorchamps. As a result, Barcelona will not host a Grand Prix in 2027, with the Spanish Grand Prix instead taking place at Madring in Madrid.
Madrid hosted its first F1 weekend in 2026 and will now feature again in 2027, meaning Spain continues to have a Grand Prix but at a different venue.
Imola Is Also Absent from the Formula 1
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola is also not included on the 2027 calendar. The European schedule instead features Portugal, Silverstone, Austria, Spa and Hungary before the summer break.
This creates a noticeably different European calendar compared with recent seasons.
More Sprint Racing Than Ever Before
Another major change for 2027 is the expansion of the Sprint format.
Formula 1 will stage 10 Sprint weekends, up from six in 2026.
The new Sprint venues for 2027 are:
- Bahrain
- Australia
- Japan
- Monaco
- Abu Dhabi
Sprint weekends will also return to:
- Canada
- Great Britain
- Italy
- Brazil
- Qatar
One of the most talked-about additions is Monaco, which will host a Sprint for the first time. That means the iconic streets of Monte Carlo will feature an additional competitive session during the weekend.
For fans and hospitality guests, the increase in Sprint weekends means more on-track action across the weekend, with more opportunities to experience qualifying and racing rather than traditional practice sessions.
A More Efficient F1 Calendar
The 2027 schedule has also been designed with a greater focus on the geographical flow of the championship.
Rather than constantly moving between distant destinations, several races have been grouped together to create more efficient stretches of the calendar. There are multiple triple-headers throughout the season, including Australia-Japan-China early in the year and Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Singapore later on.
The season will ultimately visit 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries, with races spread across five continents.
