Austrian Grand Prix
Red Bull Ring, Austria | 28th - 30th Jun 2024
Home of legendary victories – from Jochen Rindt, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher – the Osterreich course in Spielberg, Austria is steeped in history, having began life as a circuit for enthusiasts in the 1950s. The Austrian Grand Prix returns in July for a weekend of competitive sport and entertainment.
About the Austrian Grand Prix Circuit
As Austria’s passion for F1 grew from the 1950s, the purpose-built track was laid, hosting spectacular victories. The track has been redeveloped twice since, and is now known as the Red Bull Ring, although traditionally its Austrian name is the Österreichringhe. In the 70s and 80s, it was considered one of Formula 1's most exciting and dangerous circuits due to the elevation changes, fast corners and small run-off areas. Safety concerns were a factor in its removal from the calendar in 1987, and when it returned, it had been hugely rebuilt by Hermann Tilke to address this. Red Bull then made further changes when they bought it, carrying out a £60million renovation. The new 4.3 km layout is remarkable for its elevation changes (up to 65m from lowest to highest points) and just nine long sweeping turns, making it one of the fastest races in the season.
