Will Scotland’s National Team Stay At Hampden Park

Following fierce debate between managers, players and fans, the future of the Scottish National Team is still undecided. Contracted to play at Hampden Park until 2020, proposals have been made for the country’s football team to switch their home ground to Murrayfield. Traditionally seen as the home of Scottish rugby, many feel that the stadium can offer a better experience to people on and off the pitch.

While people are divided over the proposed move, there are some who feel that neither stadium is the best place for the national squad to call home. Former Scotland and Celtic midfielder, Kris Commons, spoke to BBC Scotland and expressed concerns that neither Murrayfield or Hampden Park ‘feel like football stadiums’. Concerned that the venues don’t offer the same atmosphere as other stadiums, Commons believes Hampden Park should be reconfigured if it continues to be the home of the national team.

With capacities of 51,866 and 67,144, both stadiums can cater for large numbers of fans, with many people travelling from all over the UK to watch the Scottish team take on rivals. With committed fans prepared to make the journey to either Hampden Park in Glasgow or Murrayfield in Edinburgh, support for the team won’t wane, regardless of the upcoming decision of the Scottish FA board.
