The Autumn Internationals are all about teams from the Northern hemisphere playing against teams from the Southern hemisphere and that is how it has been since the first such tournament 135 years ago. But for the 2018 series, Wales and Scotland are breaking the mould by agreeing to a game against each other.

On November 3rd, they will play at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff for the Doddie Weir Cup, which was donated by the Welsh Rugby Union. Scottish and Welsh ruby communities are being brought together by the ‘My Name’s Doddie Foundation’, a charity set up to raise fund for research in Motor Neurone Disease. In future, every time the two sides meet, this trophy will be at stake.

Preparing For The 2019 World Cup

This year, most of the teams will be using the Autumn Internationals to help prepare themselves for the 2019 World Cup in Japan. Hosted every 4 years, the World Cup is rugby’s biggest attraction, and players from all over the globe will be hoping to take part. By many, counted as the third biggest sporting event in the world, after the Football World Cup and the Summer Olympics, this is the centrepiece event that all rugby players aspire to reach.

For some of the Autumn International teams, this will be their last chance to play other teams of such high quality, before the 7 week World Cup starts. Although the tournament is still over 12 months away, ticket sales have been brisk and the amount left is starting to reduce greatly.

Hospitality for Autumn Internationals 2018

As the different teams confirm their matches, so the tickets start to disappear. With England set to start with an opening match against New Zealand for the first time since 2014, November 3rd, promises to be a day of exciting rugby matches.

There is no doubt that all of the Autumn International games will be televised, but there is nothing to compare with the atmosphere of a live match. It might be good to sit at home with a beer and a few nibbles, but how much better to see legend players live on the pitch, and be involved and in the oo’s and the ah’s if your side or the other team score.

Even better, if you have a three-course meal as part of your day, and be guaranteed some of the best seats in the stadium.
