Hartley Out of England's Six Nations Squad

Scheduled to take place on the second day of the tournament, England’s first match of their 6 Nations campaign will be against Ireland at the AVIVA Stadium in Dublin. Although Dylan Hartley had hoped to make the squad, an on-going knee injury has ruled him out. Unable to play for Northampton since late December, the hooker is still experiencing undisclosed knee problems.

While Jones hopes Hartley will be fit to play for England at some point in the 2019 tournament, his place in the squad for England’s second match against France is already in doubt. With some sources already claiming Hartley won’t feature in the home fixture, Hartley’s role in England’s 2019 6 Nations campaign is questionable.

Despite losing the Hartley and Chris Robshaw to injuries, Eddie Jones is confident in his squad’s ability to take on their foes in February. Describing the current players as, ‘our strongest squad’, Jones leaves no doubt that he expects England to perform at their best when the tournament kicks off in a couple of weeks.
