Wimbledon Tennis Championships

Wimbledon is the premier tennis tournament in the world attracting close to half a million visitors and nearly 17 million UK viewers tuning into watch the men’s 2012 final.

This year promises to provide equal measures of excitement and drama as the UK watches Andy Murray’s performance to see if he can repeat his Olympics performance of 2012 and make history by winning the trophy.

Opening Day

Opening on day one will be last year’s Men’s Singles Champion, Roger Federer, defending his title, followed on centre court on day 2 by Serena Williams starting her bid to retain her title and possible go for a 7th single title at Wimbledon.

Back this year are tennis stars such as Maria Sharpova who made it through to the second round last year and Novak Djokovic, a previous Wimbledon champion, who easily got through the opening round last year.

Wild Cards

There are youngsters and wild cards to watch out for like. All 8 wildcards will be confirmed before Sunday 16 June as the qualifying singles event will be drawn that day. UK hopefuls Chris Eaton, who came through qualifying last year and Richard Bloomfield, the British No6 and world No311 are hoping for places again in this year’s Men’s singles.
