The Open Championship at St Andrews
One of golf’s most prestigious events will be held on the Old Course at St Andrews this year. The Open Championship, or the British Open as it is also known, will take place from 16th to 19th July and will see the top names in golf battling to win the title and the chance to get their hands on the famous Claret Jug.
If you would like to be there to witness this fabulous event, DTB have a range of amazing hospitality packages that are ideal for those who want to impress clients or reward staff.
The One Under package includes an official ticket with complimentary bar and a two-course lunch. Throughout the day, guests can enjoy access to the Rusacks Hotel and they will each be given a souvenir programme as well as an Order of Play. History of the Open Championship
The Open Championship is one of golf’s four majors and is, in fact, the oldest of the four. It is the only major that is not held in the US. The first Open Championship event took place in 1860 at Scotland’s Prestwick Golf Club with just eight entrants. The competition was won by Willie Park Sr. This first competition was only open to professional golfers, but the following year amateurs were permitted entry.
The original trophy was the Challenge Belt, but the current Claret Jug replaced this in 1873. The Open Championship was held in Scotland until 1894, after which it was played at the Royal St George’s Golf Club in Kent, England.
